Mont-Rebei

The Congost de Mont-rebei gorge is one of the best known and most popular jewels in Catalonia. It is an impressive limestone rock wall, with areas up to 500 m high, which is located in the western part of El Montsec.

Popularity of the zone
This climbing zone is not very popular, largely because the access - which involves a bit of adventure - is not easy. On the other hand, the location itself: the Congost de Mont-rebei gorge, is an emblematic location, which is very well-known and spectacular. This is a place where it is also possible to enjoy various other sports, such as kayaking and trekking.

Access/Parking
There is a tarmac road and a track. There is a car park at the Hermitage of La Petrusa.

Vantage points and emblematic locations
The Congost de Mont-rebei gorge, which separates Catalonia and Aragon, is a spectacular location, with rock walls that rise vertically on either side. It is often frequented by families, who can explore it on foot or by kayak.

Chris’s ties with the zone
When Chris arrived in Lleida, he did so with the idea of doing some sport-climbing. He did not imagine that he would find the type of rock walls that are present at the Congost de Mont-rebei: a wild location, with lots of atmosphere. He was looking for a space with great walls where he could develop his vision of rock climbing. Here, he found a 250-m-long line of rock on which he has been working over recent years, and which has surpassed the expectations that he initially had for this zone.
