It prefers to live in typically Mediterranean environments with the presence of scattered trees and avoids thick woodlands. It is generally found at below 400 metres above sea level. The areas with the greatest numbers in Catalonia are the westernmost local districts of the Lleida plain and, more and more, albeit to a lesser extent, along the lower course of the River Ebro.
