ECOTOURISM ACTIVITIES
Lleida, a destination for ecotourism
The celebration, in the month of April, of an event of the importance of the Ecotourism, Nature and Sustainability Forum, in the comarca of El Pla d’Urgell, is not just a question of chance. This is further recognition of the fact that the territory of Lleida is committed to promoting a healthy and sustainable form of tourism and one that respects the environment. In fact, this is a type of tourism that has nature as an essential part of its DNA.
This DNA is present throughout the territory: in the spectacular valleys and mountain ridges of the Pyrenees (with areas of great biological and landscape value, including the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, and the Alt Pirineu and El Cadí-Moixeró Natural Parks); in the surprising, and relatively little-known, natural settings of the Pre-Pyrenees, which are rich in geology and extraordinary paleontological remains; and also, in the sober aesthetics of the crop fields of the Lleida plain, which is an area that conceals such precious jewels as the Estany d’Ivars i Vila-sana pool and the Aiguabarreig (confluence) of the rivers Segre and Cinca.
All in all, this is a perfect destination at which to enjoy the best natural proposals. It is an ideal setting at which to find and enjoy activities such as: hiking and MTB, ornithological tourism and the observation of wildlife, and geology and astronomy. Alternatively, you can simply admire the views of the countryside as you travel through the Pre-Pyrenees on the Lakes Train.
It should be added that the great open spaces, fresh air, and relaxing landscapes also offer important added value to all those visitors who, in the midst of the current public health situation, are looking for unique, safe and healthy getaways, far from crowded and depersonalised spaces. And, naturally, Lleida is the ideal destination for this.
